2012 Honda CR-V Spy Shots

2012 Honda CR-V Spy Shot
2012 Honda CR-V Spy Shot
The 2012 Honda CR-V will debut this fall, but there hasn’t been much to go on as Honda remains tight-lipped about the vehicle. That is, until now – spy shots of the 2012 CR-V looking  ready for production, have been given to Car and Driver from a reader in Washington.
The photos show gentle tweaks to the current CR-V, rather than a radical makeover. However, Car and Driver speculates that a longer rear overhang could  mean the addition of a small third-row “for short-legged passengers.” Not many vehicles in the segment offer a third-row, apart from Toyota RAV4.
Car and Driver say, “Figure on a naturally aspirated four-cylinder being the only engine available. It should displace 2.4 liters like today’s CR-V engine, and we expect it to make between 180 and 200 hp—although the number may be closer to the bottom end of that range. Fuel economy also should improve slightly; in front-drive spec, the current model is rated for 21 mpg city and 28 mpg highway. (All-wheel-drivers are rated for 21/27.)”
The 2012 CR-V is likely to debut at the 2011 Los Angeles auto show in November.

2011 vs. 2012 Chevrolet Equinox Buying Guide

2011 Chevrolet Equinox
2011 Chevrolet Equinox

If you are looking for a midsize SUV that has room, comfort and affordability, then the Chevrolet Equinox is a good option to consider.
U.S.News has ranked the 2011 Chevrolet Equinox 1 out of 23 Affordable Compact SUVs, saying “The Equinox only starts at about $1,000 more than affordable small SUV class favorites like the Honda CR-V, and it even gets better fuel economy. Because of its price and gas mileage, combined with a roomy interior, most reviewers say the Equinox is a good deal.”
Detroit News says, “Well priced, fuel efficient and nicely appointed, the Equinox sets a new benchmark for every automaker.”
There have been a few complaints about the 2011 Equinox’s slightly underpowered thrifty four-cylinder, as well as too many buttons on the dash. However, you will a compact SUV that has a well-liked exterior, and a high-quality, quiet interior cabin. The Chevrolet Equinox also has great versatility with sliding rear seats.
Now that we are well into 2011, we are getting closer to the release of the 2012 Chevrolet Equinox, which should be in showrooms by autumn this year. That may leave you wondering if you should wait to purchase the 2012 model.
Changes for the 2012 Chevrolet Equinox will probably be in at few extra color choices, taillamp tin, and wheel style. iGuida says, “The core values of this five-passenger crossover won’t change, so waiting for the 2012 model isn’t likely to prove worthwhile. In fact, this SUV is due some revisions for model-year 2013, so buying a 2012 Equinox means you’d have just one season to enjoy its styling before a fresher version hits the streets.” That being said, the 2011 Chevrolet Equinox would be your best option, unless you can wait till 2013.
Another option would be to consider other compact SUVs in the same class, such as the Nissan Murano or Ford Edge. Both have higher starting prices than the 2011 Chevy Equinox (the Nissan Murano will cost you over $5,000 more and the Ford Edge starts at over $4,5000 more.) However, both both have standard V6 power and offer more cargo space than the Equinox’s 63.7 cubic foot capacity.
On the cheaper end, you can consider the Honda CR-V or the Toyota RAV4. Both cost roughly $1,000 less than the base Equinox. They have worse fuel economy than the 2011 Equinox, but the Honda CR-V has extra 9.2 cubic feet of cargo capacity, and the Toyota RAV4 has an optional V6 and third-row of seats.
As U.S.News points out, “unless you need a third row, the Equinox’s mid-size SUV space, coupled with its compact SUV price and terrific gas mileage should place it on most buyers’ short lists.” The 2011 Chevrolet starts selling at $22,995.

2012 Hyundai Santa Fe Spy Shots – Dual Exhausts?

Lots of people are wondering about the 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe, specially over at Hyundai Forums. A thread called ‘Next-generation Santa Fe (2012?)’ asks what changes people expect to see for the 2012 Santa Fe.
Apparantely, the complete redesigned Santa Fe is due in September, 2011. Yet, there is hardly information available as of yet.  “Hyundai is extremely secretive about their future models and won’t make anything official until they’re sure its perfect,” explains forum member lovemysantafe. However, member njerald found some credible spy shots of the 2012 Santa Fe over at BurlappCaars:

Major differences that can be seen from these 2012 Santa Fe spy shots, are the dual exhaust and the unswept rear window.  Right now on Hyundai’s site under 2012 Models, the 2012 Santa Fe crossover remains the only vehicle with no available information. However, spy shots signal at an upcoming debut, so stay posted.

2012 Nissan Rogue Review

2011 Nissan Rogue The 2012 Nissan Rogue compact SUV will mainly be a carryover of the 2011 Rogue that went through a mid-cycle refreshening. The 2012 Rogue will continue with similar styling to the 2011 Rogue, which received a new grille and front fascia, chrome-accented door moldings, and a rear spoiler. Other changes included tweaked styling, new color options, and a variety of new features like Bluetooth and a USB port.
The 2012 Rogue will sit in the middle of Nissan’s five-seater crossover lineup,  between the smaller 2012 Nissan Juke, and larger 2012 Nissan Murano.
The 2012 Nissan Rogue will be offered in the same trims: S, SV, and Krōm. Iguida says, “The last, pronounced “chrome,” should return with its own grille appearance, some fancier aero body trim, and unique 18-inch alloy wheels versus the other models’ standard 16- or 17-inch wheels.” All models will come standard with front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is also available for the Rogue, but its meant for messier on-road situations rather than off-road duty.
The Nissan Rogue counts as a relatively long compact crossover, but spaciousness is only found in the front-seat. iGuida notes, “rear-seat room is merely average and maximum cargo volume — 57.9 cubic feet with the rear seatbacks folded — is slightly below par.” Things aren’t expected to change until the Rogue gets a redesign, which is not scheduled until 2014. However, in order to compete with rivals, the 2012 Rogue may receive an upgrade in interior materials.
As for the mechanical side of things, the 2012 Rogue will return with a single engine – a 2.5L four-cylinder making 170 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque, mated with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Its current Rogue’s fuel-economy is rated at around 22/27 mpg city/highway with front-wheel drive, and around 21/26 with AWD. There a mild  improvement may be possible for the 2012 Rogue.
iGuida points out, “The 2012 Rogue will again count among its assets a suspension adept at cushioning bumps and encouraging enthusiastic cornering.” Maximum towing capacity for the 2012 Nissan Rogue should remain at 1,500 pounds.
Features offered with 2012 Rogue will include Bluetooth connection, USB connection port for iPOD, Nissan navigation system, leather appointed seats, xenon headlights, heated front seats, and Nissan’s keyless entry and ignition system. You may have to pick through the model lineup and options list to outfit the 2012 Rogue to your liking.
iGuida adds, “The 2012 Rogue will continue to augment its cargo versatility with a huge glovebox, big center-console bins, and a washable, removable tray beneath the rear load floor. Also available will be a neat cargo-bay organizer that pops from load the floor at the touch of a button and a front-passenger seatback that folds forward to create an 8.5-foot cargo channel inside the vehicle.”
Standard safety features for the 2012 Rogue will include six standard air bags, and advanced technology like the standard Anti-lock Braking system that helps prevent wheel lockup while breaking heavily.
The 2012 Nissan Rogue is expected to be in showrooms by autumn 2011. It will be competing other compact crossovers like the Honda CR-V, the Ford Escape, and the Subaru Forester.
